What does it take to be successful on social media?
It's difficult these days to grow on social media.
I've produced and published thousands of posts. Both for myself, and for clients with large platforms. The reality is, it’s tough cutting through the noise.
The average Instagram Post engagement rate is just .60%. For Facebook, it drops down to an average of .15%.
With those stats in mind…
I wanted to share 3 lesser-known truths about thriving on social media.
1. The Marathon Mindset
Success in social media is a long game.
Most creators give up. I don’t have data to back this up (I’d love to study this one day)... but I suspect a large reason is the obsession over immediate metrics like views and likes.
These types of metrics don’t offer any meaningful indication of long-term success.
When I started my Instagram, my goal wasn’t follows, it was about publishing. I aimed to hit 100 posts. I knew once I achieved that number, I’d have a better understanding of my audience.
Reminder: Longevity beats instant gratification.
2. The Art of Repetition
If you look at the top creators in your niche, I bet they all have one thing in common: they’re not reinventing the wheel.
It’s about finding that sweet spot.
A format or theme that clicks and then repeating it.
Reminder: “Everything that needs to be said has already been said. But, since no one was listening, everything must be said again.” -Andre Gide
3. Embrace Help
Going solo in social media is a tough road.
At some point, seeking help isn't a 'nice to have' it's a 'need to have.'
This doesn’t mean you have to outsource your social media entirely. Sometimes, it’s about delegating other tasks to focus more on your content creation.
The most successful creators have a support system. This enables them to maintain consistency and scale their impact (and earnings).
Reminder: Doing more of what you love will require you to get good at letting go.
