Slaying the Doubt Dragon, One Post at a Time

Have you heard of the Great Vowel Shift? It’s a period of time between 1400-1700 AD where modern English pronunciations of words took it's form, which is how far back in time you could travel before you could not longer converse effectively with others.

In today’s newsletter:

  • Doubt: Have you ever doubted yourself? This reframe is for you.

  • Everyday: Build a habit and keep your streak going.

  • Ads: Ad revenue at X (Twitter) is continuing to decline, Google announces new AI-powered photo-editing features, and more.

Let's tackle a question that's been on everyone's mind…

How can you transition from dabbling in content creation to doing it full-time?

After speaking with hundreds of creators over the past couple years who want to make their side thing their main thing, all I can offer is my story…

And to share my story, I have to share that I’m somewhat of a slow learner.

  • High school grades? Mediocre.

  • A fancy degree? Nope.

  • Industry connections? Zilch.

I’m sure you’ve caught a typo or three in these newsletters.

What has propelled me though, is my drive to take action first and sweat the details later.

At 22, I started my coaching career. I didn’t understand why established professionals wanted to work with me. But that doubt didn't stop me from acquiring clients.

When Digital Podcaster was born in 2021 during a random aha on the couch, I had plenty of uncertainty. Yet, that didn’t stop me from making those first 100 posts.

Similarly, Content Clips was born during an evening wind-down. My head had all sorts of skepticism. That didn’t stop my DMs asking if friends would be interested.

Here's the mistake 99% of people make when building any platform: assuming the people in success stories don’t experience doubt.

The reality? They experience the doubt but move through it.

Here I am, 10+ years later, and doubt is still a frequent visitor. It’s often loudest when I’m on to something the most impactful.

Here's the paradigm shift: More doubt often signifies greater care on your part.

Instead of noticing the doubt and thinking “hmmm, maybe I’m not supposed to be doing this.”

I’d invite you to try this thought on the next time, “hmmm, maybe that doubt is because I care, and the thing I’m doing is actually important to others.”

The more doubt gets out of your way, the easier it is to take action.

Joseph Campbell said it best, “The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.”

Everyday

Everyday is a habit tracking app. It’s straightforward. If you’re a fan, like me, of creating chains - where you link together days…this is a great app. Speaking of which, I’m on day 984 of writing in my daily journal. January 24, 2021 is when I started. That has only happened because of an app like Everyday.
