Are You Stuck in a Content Rut? Here's Your Way Out

Have you heard of the Great Vowel Shift? It’s a period of time between 1400-1700 AD where modern English pronunciations of words took it's form, which is how far back in time you could travel before you could not longer converse effectively with others.

In today’s newsletter:

  • Content Wheel: A content creation template that will help you vary your content for different audiences.

  • I Miss My Cafe: Replicate your ideal coffee shop workspace.

  • Decline: Teens are using Snap less, FBI has a new warning, and more.

I've created content for people at every stage of the creator journey.

How do I keep it varied without confusing myself and my audience?

By using what is referred to as a 'Content Wheel'.

There are different ways to use this, and people have different methods behind it, but I'll share what I've used for a little over a year now that just works.

Now, before I share this, I want to say that I don't exclusively create content using this method.

I'm a creative.

Most weeks, I get a lot of ideas, and they fall within this template.

And because I've gone through the exercise of filling out this template multiple times, it has become second nature to me.

Anyway, here's an example of the Content Wheel:

Notice that column A has 'Beginner,' 'Intermediate,' and 'Advanced'.

This is because people are at different stages when they come across your content.

Using myself as an example, some people are thinking about starting a podcast but haven't launched yet.

Some are podcasting but only a few episodes in.

Others have been podcasting for a while.

Instead of only creating content for beginners, intermediates, or advanced podcasters, I can create individual pieces for all three.

Moving on, you'll notice that columns B through G are labeled 'Misconceptions,' 'Mistakes,' 'Processes,' 'Questions,' 'Stories,' and 'Insights'.

Simply put, I can go through this and fill out each cell with a piece of content that's related to the person it's intended for.

To get meta, sharing this process with you would fall under “Intermediate Processes” (Cell D5).

If you're the type of creator who would utilize something like this template, I can make a few assumptions:

  • You're not new to making content. You've made something before.

  • You're struggling to find a rhythm that works for you with your posting.

  • You get bored making only one type of content for one type of person.

I could go on, but the idea here is that by utilizing something like this content wheel, you as a creator get to expand and show different sides of yourself.

What used to feel like you were playing one note on the piano over and over, suddenly turns into a song with texture that people start craving more of.

I'd love to hear what you think about a template like this.

Feel free to reply and let me know :)
