I’ve been on another Rick Rubin deep dive recently.

Soaking up his podcasts and guest appearances. He’s put out a lot of great interviews.

As someone who thrives on creative ideas, I’ve found his perspectives eye-opening.

While I’m a minimalist with physical items, I’m the opposite with digital ones. I’m all about collecting and storing eclectic ideas for ‘rainy days’. But sometimes, this habit can be a double-edged sword.

It’s easy to drown in a sea of external inspiration, and overlook all the great ideas right in front of us.

My experience with making this newsletter, podcasts, and videos has taught me something important. The pieces that resonate the most aren’t the ones with the most elaborate concepts. They’re the ones I created quickly and intuitively. Where I finally paid attention to what’s in the back in of my mind.

As creators, I think it’s natural to chase the next thing, or outdo our last project. But what really defines ‘better’?

I’ll sign off with this Rick Rubin quote that struck a chord with me:

“Everything I make is a diary entry. The beauty of a diary entry is, I can write my diary entry, and you can't tell me my diary entry wasn't good enough. Or that's not what I experienced. Of course it's what I experienced, I'm writing a personal diary for myself. No one else can judge it. It is my experience of my life."
