My Equipment Picks for Quality In-Person Interviews
In 2022, 47% of all internet traffic came from bots. But you…reading this…you’re human…right? Right?! 😳
In today’s newsletter:
Gear Picks: What equipment I’m using for my in-person podcast interviews.
Publer: Easily download your content from the internet.
On/Off: TikTok is making its algorithm optional, Apple has to pay up for throttling iPhones, and more.

DYLAN’S DOWNLOAD
As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, I’m putting together a new podcast featuring stories from local businesses in my community.
This is both a way to build my network, and experiment with different in-person recording techniques and storytelling formats.
Today, I thought I’d share a little bit about what gear I’m choosing to use for these interviews…
I’ll be covering the high-level items I’ll be using, but if you’d like direct links to every item, I’ve listed them here.
Audio Gear:
Microphones: I’ll be using the Shure MV7x (It’s just like the Shure MV7, except it is XLR output only. Sounds great, and is around $70 cheaper per microphone.)
Recorder: I’m going with the Zoom H6. I love how easy to display is to see.
Tripods: I’ll be using the Gator Frameworks weighted base desktop stands. I may end up using their taller, floor tripods if there is not a desk to set these stands on.
XLR Cables: I love keeping things colorful, so I’ll be using blue LyxPro XLR Cables.
Monitoring Audio: I’ll be wearing my Shure SE425 Pro Wired Earbuds to make sure levels sound good.
Video Gear:
The podcast will be focused on audio, but I’ll also be capturing video for Content Clips.
Camera A: Sony A7C with a Sigma 16mm 1.4 Lens
Camera B: Sony ZV-E1 with a Sony 20mm 1.8 Lens
Lighting: Boling BL-P1 LED lights. I may end up using something like a Nanlite LumiPad 25 if the Boling LED lights don’t have enough output.
There are a few more items, so if you’d like to see the full breakdown with links to every item, you can visit the page here.
I’m also speaking more about my thought process behind these items in this week’s podcast episode, you can listen to here.

FREE RESOURCE
Publer
There’s a lot of different sites out there that allow you to download your content from social media…but they can be a little sketchy and filled with ads. Right now, Publer is a simple tool that allows you to input the URL of your post on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, etc. and it will give you a download link where you can grab your video or photo. It’s easy and free!
