Ever wondered where you're at on your creator journey?
Driving long distances always gets me thinking.
Yesterday, I was on the road and dove deep into the idea of the 'Stages of the Creator Journey'.
Inspired by Joseph Campbell's The Hero's Journey.
Stage One: The Call to Create.
This is where you feel an initial urge to share about a particular topic or story.
Even though there's a lot of uncertainty and questions that remain on how to do it, you feel this pull to do it.
This where you either stay consuming or switch to a creator.
You’ve got a lot of questions, but the spark is lit.
Stage Two: Facing Challenges.
This is when creators face the stuff that pops up in their way.
Faced with the new challenge of criticism, self-doubt, uncertainty, technical challenges, etc.
This is the make-or-break stage for creators.
Resilience kicks in.
Stage Three: Finding Your Voice.
This is where creators start to refine their style and messaging.
It’s like playing an instrument and you start to string together songs in your way.
Confidence and building your creative identity are the main themes.
Stage Four: Engagement and Influence.
You’ve got the fundamentals down.
Now you’re starting to see real-world engagement and impact from what you’re sharing with the world.
Your community is growing. Opportunities are presenting themselves.
You have a growing responsibility.
Stage Five: Mastery and Mentorship.
This stage is more than personal or financial growth.
You've reached a rare level of mastery in your craft…even if you don't feel like it.
You enjoy the journey versus trying to reach a destination.
You're also giving back and contributing to those who are following a similar path you did.
A Few Key Points About the Creator Journey:
Non-Linear Progression.
The journey isn't a strict step-by-step process.
Simultaneous Stages.
You might find yourself in many stages at once. For example, while gaining traction, you could still be refining your style.
Cycling Back.
Reaching a new stage doesn't prevent you from revisiting earlier stages. Especially when exploring new niches or platforms.
Unique Experiences.
Each creator's journey is unique. Your personal experiences and circumstances will change the speed of each new stage.
Every Stage Matters.
There are so many gifts to gain at each stage. One stage isn't better than the others.
I’m curious where you would place yourself on this creator journey?
Also, which stage have you found the most difficult to navigate? Let me know!
