How do you balance what you consume versus what you create as a digital creator?
For me, I create a lot.
With my daily morning pages, I'm writing around 1,100 words right when I wake up.
But regardless, I still end up consuming a lot. And there's a problem with content consumption when it goes unnoticed.
Unchecked mindless media consumption can lead to:
Falling in the comparison trap.
Feeling like no ideas are good enough.
Overthinking what to create.
And a lot more...
It's common for creators to get burned out. And it's common for social media consumers to delete apps and take breaks. It can be overwhelming.
But if creating and publishing is part of your career, how do you manage it?
I've found myself falling into mindless media consumption. It's sneaky. Before I know it, I'm down rabbit holes of topics I would have never otherwise cared about.
So I'll share a solution with you that I'm implementing...
I'm not checking social media until I press publish.
This isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. But for me, because I'm publishing daily. It's important that I have a deeper sense of purpose in what I make. And when I scroll, before I create, I find it harder to connect with that purpose.
If you struggle with what I mentioned here, why not give this boundary setting exercise a try too?
P.S. I’m gonna be shifting things up a bit with my newsletter and podcast schedule. Starting this week, I’ll be moving to the following schedule:
This Newsletter: Every Tuesday
Podcast: Every Thursday
Social Media Videos: Daily
Things are picking up more with Content Clips and The Creator Club, and shifting to this schedule will give me the opportunity to increase the overall quality of everything.
