The 3 Pillars of My Business (Hint: It's Boring)

Did you know that the biohazard symbol didn’t symbolize or refer to anything originally. It’s simply a shape that was picked as being symmetrical, hard to mistake, and easy to remember.

This week, it’s dawned on me that there are a ton of video editing services available for podcasters.

When I launched Content Clips just a year ago, there didn't seem to be as many options for creating clips as there are today. It was somewhat of a novel idea then.

ChatGPT hadn’t yet taken over, and AI was still lurking in the shadows.

Video editors weren’t DM'ing me on LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok, offering to make clips.

It has made me grateful to have found the success I have with a service, in a landscape where so many options are available.

Video editors are now frequently asking me about how I run Content Clips.

So, I thought I'd highlight a key philosophy behind Content Clips, one that has been consistent from day one.

Our aim is to make things extremely easy.

I want my clients to focus on their mission without having to manage yet another task.

The only way to accomplish this successfully is to have a deep understanding of our clients' needs and desires.

During the simple onboarding process, we ask questions that shape the editing process, and we document the answers so they’re never forgotten.

Whenever an updated design or promotional request comes in that deviates from the initial instructions, we log it in our master sheet for that client.

I aim for Content Clips to be boring, predictable, and consistent so that our clients don't have to worry about anything we’re managing.

Through my journey as an entrepreneur, I’ve learned the hard way that everything tends to take at least twice as long as anticipated.

The more we can get ahead of this for clients, the better experience we can deliver.

This same philosophy drifts over to other areas of my business as well - consulting, podcasting, writing these emails, etc.

Boring. Predictable. Consistent.

  • Boring: I’m not swinging far between highs and lows, or else I’ll burn out.

  • Predictable: I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel daily, weekly, or monthly.

  • Consistent: I get out of this what I put into it.

Besides strictly podcasters, I know there’s a blend of video editors, podcast editors, and coaches here…and I frequently get asked questions, so it feels like bridging two different worlds. But maybe they’re not that different…so any feedback is appreciated!

WHAT’S BUZZIN’

Edison Research has found that with all the audio time spent at home, 12% is with podcasts. And all of the audio time spent at other places (like the gym, the grocery store, etc.) 11% is with podcasts.
