Ignoring your content analytics is like ignoring your financial budget.
You could get by, and do fine. But it’s a whole lot easier having a better understand of the map, right?
I thought I would spotlight 3 common mistakes I see creators make with their analytics.
And if no one taught you how to analyze your posts…that’s not on you. Let’s dive in!
Mistake #1: The 'Ignorance is Bliss' Approach
Most creators do a quick check - how many views on Instagram, downloads on a podcast, and that's it.
They’ll ask themselves, was it more or less than the post before it?
More? Great! I’m improving.
Less? Oh no! The algorithm…
The problem is this leads to endless publishing with no better understanding of why certain things work.
Mistake #2: The 'Instant Gratification' Trap
Another popular one…
It’s only been 15 minutes and you’ve already refreshed 15 times to see how your latest post is doing.
Not only is this impacting your mental state, it’s never going to give you the data you’re hoping for…which is, this post did great.
These days, algorithms need time to breathe and spread out your content. You might have a post blow up 3 days later. And by that time you’ve already moved on. Never having learned from the last post.
Mistake #3: The 'One-Track Mind' Mistake
Similar to the instant gratification comes this mistake. Only looking at one metric. For example, views.
But if you’re looking back at your previous 30-60 days, you’ll find a lot more helpful data points.
Consider asking yourself:
What topics resonated?
What designs or fonts worked best?
How long are the top posts?
Understanding your content's performance isn't just about numbers. It's about growing, evolving, and connecting deeper with your audience.
Keep creating, keep analyzing, and above all, keep being awesome!

🛠️ CREATOR RESOURCE
SnapMotion
This has become my latest favorite tool – SnapMotion. Previously, capturing a screenshot from a video for a thumbnail or product photo was a guessing process. I had to launch Quicktime, switch to full screen, and then take a screenshot. I wasn’t sure if it was the fullest quality it could be. SnapMotion simplifies and improves this task. I can quickly navigate to the exact moment in the video, hit a button, and capture a high-quality screenshot instantly. It's the most efficient method.
*Like 99% of the resources I mention here, I don’t have any affiliation with SnapMotion.
